Side FX
Emerging from Washington, D.C., pop group, Side FX, debuted their Contradictions album to high praise. They are well on their way to releasing a sophomore album. Combining a fresh take with inspired lyrics, each song on Contradictions is wrapped around a personal experience of lead singer/songwriter, Kim Cameron. With a voice reminiscent of Chrissie Hynde and the richness of Paula Cole, Cameron’s sultry alto notes complement blazing guitar riffs, a few wailing saxophone solos, and soft vocal harmonies. The songs offer a get-up-and-dance spirit with a seductive twist. "Kim Cameron’s music is a clear, sultry beacon. With her band, [Side FX,] a shimmering voice topping a tight arrangement is the common thread throughout all the songs you hear... but while she bills the music as ‘alt rock’ you are likely to find elements of pop, jazz, and country that are extremely well done." — Arthur Gonick, WSPN Radio $10 cover. Veterans Hospital patients with valid ID admitted free.

Soul Rebels Brass Band
Imagine blending the sounds of Mardi Gras funk, soft rock, and reggae so seemingly it defies category. Now shrink that idea into a seven-piece ensemble, add a hip hop sensibility plus a hundred years of New Orleans jazz tradition, and you'll get the Louisiana sound known as the Soul Rebels. This shrewd crew of college trained multi-instrumentalists are forcing listeners to "Let your mind be free" as they "Work it out" on the dance floor. After parading around the streets of New Orleans in the traditions of the second line and jazz funerals, the Soul Rebels began their professional debut with the famed Neville Brothers in New Orleans at the Hot Spot Tipitina's! The Soul Rebels rocked so hard and so strong they continued opening for the Neville Brothers and beyond. The bands hard funk groove has landed them gigs as an opening act for: Bootsy Collins, A Tribe Called Quest, Better than Ezra, Counting Crows, Olympia Brass Band, Dirty Dozen Brass Band, Roy Hargrove, James Brown, Allen Toussaint, Lionel Hampton, Terence Blanchard, Branford Marsalis, Robert Plant & Jimmy Page and many more. $15 cover

Denny Freeman
Dallas native Denny Freeman is perhaps best known as an original member
of the Austin Mafia, and the Cobras (with Stevie Ray Vaughn and
others). He has also toured extensively with Jimmy Vaughan, Angela
Strehli and Taj Mahal, and has spent the last 4 years as a sideman in
Bob Dylan's band. “Dallas native and Austin fixture, Denny Freeman was
co-lead guitarist in the Cobras with Stevie Vaughan, before joining
Angela Strehli (cutting two solo LPs during his stint with the
songstress), contributing to Big Guitars from Texas, and recording with
Lou Ann Barton. More original and out-on-a-limb than most
textbook-blues players, he co-wrote ‘Baboom/Mama Said’ on the Vaughan
Brothers’ Family Style and played guitar and piano on tour with Jimmie
Vaughan following the latter’s Strange Pleasure.” ~Dan Forte, All Music
Guide. Denny has spent the last 4 years playing guitar in Bob Dylan's touring band. $10 cover.
